All personnel regardless of role, job or position within an organization should undergo IED Recognition and Explosive Hazard SEARCH for First Responder to prepare them in meeting the challenges of the potential threats from criminality and terrorism. It will enable personnel to better understand the adversary, increasing the capability to interrogate the target area looking for signs of further danger and increasing the chances of survivability. The IED Recognition and Explosive Hazard SEARCH for First Responder will give all personnel a basic knowledge of the counter terrorist threat, IED recognition and actions to be carried out in the event of an incident; it will focus on the following SEARCH procedures and techniques:
- Introduction to SEARCH.
- The threat.
- Recognition of IEDs.
- Environment SEARCH (Op AWARE).
- Action on – response to suspect item, package or incident.
This is accomplished in a number of ways:
